(TITC) – MICE tourism (Meeting Incentive Conference Event) is a type of tourism that combines conferences, seminars, exhibitions, event organisation, and incentive travel of companies for employees and partners.
During the summer of 2023, Quang Ninh witnessed an explosion of this type of tourism with impressive numbers. According to statistics, in the first half of 2023, the number of visitors to Quang Ninh is estimated to reach 8.86 million, and the total tourist receipts is estimated to reach VND16,660 billion. In particular, MICE tourism growth is from 25-50%. This is also the best recovery area of most major travel companies, accounting for about 60-70% of tourist numbers.

Destinations focus on Ha Long with swimming activities, team building, visiting Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Museum… Introducing new destinations such as Cai Chien and Mong Cai to increase tourist experience.

Ms. Mai Thanh Thuy, Head of Travel and Tourism Business Department, VTTC Travel Quang Ninh branch, said the outstanding competitive advantage of transportation infrastructure and tourism services has created a certain attraction for this tourist stream. Quang Ninh has become a priority destination because of convenient transportation, quality of services, cuisine, and entertainment that meet the requirements of many different types of visitors from students to workers and staff of large companies and corporations.
Evaluating the choice of Ha Long as the destination to organise the company’s activities, Mr. Dao Thai Tu, Northern Regional Sales Director (IDP International Dairy Joint Stock Company) said, to organise a programme for a company with branches located in all 3 regions, the unit has many attractive options. However, the unit still chooses Ha Long and Quang Ninh as the destination because of its convenient travel location, impressive natural scenery, especially the system of large hotels suitable for accommodating many groups and organising events.
The reason why Quang Ninh “explodes” in MICE tourism in 2023 is thanks to the special advantages of its natural landscape, especially the world heritage and natural wonder of Ha Long Bay; developed tourism infrastructure and convenient transportation. Along with that, in Quang Ninh there are 1,380 accommodation establishments with nearly 20,000 rooms, including 214 hotels and luxury apartments ranging from 1 to 5 stars; over 500 ships transport visitors to Ha Long Bay (202 tourist accommodation ships with 1,900 bedrooms).
