Son La province held a ceremony on September 17 to honour the art of Xoe dance of the Thai ethnic people, as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity recognised by UNESCO.

At the ceremony, Xoe dances were performed by Thai ethnic minority people, reviving traditional values and national identity, as well as the cultural quintessence of the Thai ethnic people.
Xoe is known as a type of dance with symbolic movements for human activities, practised in rituals, culture, life and community activities.
Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Son La province Trang Thi Xuan, said “The art of Xoe dance recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is a pride of the Thai community and ethnic minorities in Son La province.”
Son La will focus on turning Xoe dance into a highlight for tourist destinations, serving community tourism and meeting the experience needs of domestic and foreign tourists.
Previously, the People’s Committee of Son La province launched the “Xoe Thai Festival” at the Provincial Cinema and Culture Centre on September 16, attracting the participation of 500 artists across the province.
