Developing traditional craft villages associated with tourism in Phu Tho

Phu Tho is a province with many craft villages that have been formed, existed and developed for a long time, each craft village has its own unique characteristics. With the advantages of the Fatherland – where the Hung Kings started setting the capital and building the country, craft villages have exploited the strength of roots tourism combined with sightseeing and experience, contributing to increasing income for the local people, creating a highlight and increasing the attraction for tourists.

The whole province currently has 75 recognized traditional craft villages, in which the group of craft villages processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and fishery products accounts for 58.7%; the group of handicraft villages accounted for 26.6%; the remaining are craft villages producing and trading ornamental plants and animals, building and producing building materials. Recently, the number of domestic and international tourists wishing to visit craft villages has been increasing, and the orientation to associate the development of craft villages with tourism activities has been paid attention and focused on by the province. The craft villages also actively adapt flexibly to the new context, effectively taking advantage of the support from the province”s guidelines and policies for sustainable development.

On the journey to the Fatherland, on the local tourist route, Doan Ket food processing craft village, Xom banh chung and banh giay making village, Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city with more than 100 business households, has become an ideal stopover for tourists after visiting the Hung Kings’ Temple Historic Site, learning about the cultural and spiritual values of Hung Lo Ancient Communal House, and the Xoan singing art. Coming here, visitors may learn about the stages of making noodles, experience wrapping banh chung, pounding banh giay and enjoy typical dishes.

The province’s tourism industry has coordinated with departments, branches and localities to build five key tourist areas including: Viet Tri, Tam Nong, Thanh Thuy, Ha Hoa, Thanh Son – Tan Son with six rural tourist destinations including: Au Co Mother Temple cultural tourism site, community eco-tourism site in Xuan Son commune, Bach Hac community cultural tourist attraction, Hung Lo community cultural tourist attraction, Long Coc community tourist attraction and agricultural tourist spot in My Lung commune… At each tourist spot, craft villages with favorable geographical locations and typical products such as: Dich Qua tea, Kim Thuong brocade, Bo soy sauce village, Duc My soy sauce village, Sai Nga conical hat, Tan Duc safe vegetable… will promote strengths and create attraction from traditional crafts.
