The 8th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium to kick off in Cao Bang in 2024

Cao Bang province realizes that hosting the 8th APGN Symposium will be a good opportunity to introduce and promote its potential of tourism, including Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark. The Provincial People’s Committee expects the event to open an opportunity for friends, domestic and international tourists to know the potential, strengths and uniqueness of Cao Bang tourism.

At the meeting, the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism shared outstanding results on the operation and activities of UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark from 2018 to present. Mr. Guy Martini, Senior Advisor, Chairman of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council emphasized that in 2019, Cao Bang successfully organized the international workshop “Sustainable tourism development through the UNSECO Global Geopark model” with the participation of more than 300 Vietnamese and international delegates.

However, the 8th APGN Symposium is of much greater importance, with a scale of about 800 – 1,000 international delegates representing 100 Geoparks/90 countries around the world. Therefore, Cao Bang Provincial needs to communication before the event, building a conference registration portal for international delegates on the contents and activities of the conference, prepare reports on achievements and effective operation of UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark.

Developing content to discuss, share experiences, and good practices on conservation of geological and cultural heritage values; exploiting and preserving the value of geopark heritage, developing tourism in association with protection of environmental resources and adaptation to climate change; geopark education in schools, sustainable tourism development.

Setting activities for international delegates to experience 4 tourist routes of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark and introduce OCOP products, traditional craft villages.

On this occasion, Mr. Guy Martin will introduce the 5th tourist route connecting Ha Giang Karst Plateau Geopark with Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark. This is the most unique route in the world because it is the first route connecting two global geoparks with many heritage values.

Previously, on 16-17th August, delegation of experts from UNESCO Global Geopark Network and Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board experienced the 5th tourist route connecting Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark (Ha Giang Province) with Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark (Cao Bang Province).
