Impression of the Malaysian market
During the period 2015 – 2019, tourists from Southeast Asia countries such as Thailand, Malaysia were potential markets for Quang Nam tourism. In the first 10 months of 2023, Malaysia was also on the list of top source markets for tourism in Quang Nam.
The presence of Malaysia in the top 5 largest international tourism markets for the province in 2023 indicates that it may become one of the important markets in the near future.
Therefore, Quang Nam’s tourism industry is pushing various activities to attract tourists from Malaysia in particular and other Southeast Asian countries in general.
Most Malaysian travel agencies are interested in tourism products in Central Vietnam thanks to its cultural and scenic advantages.
So, Quang Nam will enhance tourism promotion activities and introduce special services for Muslim visitors.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong – Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Nam shared, it is anticipated that Malaysian tourists to Quang Nam will soon surpass pre-COVID-19 level and continue to rise in the coming years.
Opportunities
Quang Nam has great potential to exploit Southeast Asian tourists.
In the first 10 months of 2023, there was a significant increase in the number of Singaporean visitors to Quang Nam. It is expected that Singaporean tourists to Quang Nam in 2023 will also exceed 2019.
The increasing number of tourists to Da Nang is also a chance for Quang Nam tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong believed that Singapore will become a key tourist market for the province, with an annual growth rate of 25 – 30%.
Reportedly, Vietnam attracted 10 million international visitor arrivals in the first 10 months of 2023. Korea was the largest tourism market. Ranked in the next 3 positions in the top are Southeast Asian markets.
According to Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy – Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association, there is a significant number of Muslim tourists in the Southeast Asian region. Therefore, it is important to establish a product chain ecosytem to attract this specific segment of tourists.
Quang Nam tourism is also expected to benefit from recent developements in ASEAN tourism. Local travel agencies regularly collaborate with famtrip groups from Thailand and the Philippines to visit Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An.
Direct flights from Da Nang to Manila, Philippines are scheduled to begin in December 2023. Da Nang city has recently promoted its tourism in Indonesia – the world’s fourth most populous country. It is also a chance for Quang Nam to attract tourists from these potential markets.
